I don’t know about you but over the years I been given loads of gift vouchers. For Christmases, birthdays and even for the birth of our children; every special occasion you can think of we’ve received a gift voucher at some point.
Some have come in really handy like the Mothercare vouchers we used to put towards Daniella’s pushchair. I also took great delight in redeeming a £20 iTunes voucher which was given to me as a leaving present from my old job.
On the other hand, there have been vouchers which, although I’ve been grateful to receive, I didn’t really have any use for. And, even when a situation arose where they could have come in handy, it was too late anyway as it had passed the expiry date so they were worthless.
How many times have you found expired vouchers in the back of a drawer?!
Zeek update
Update: 6 February 2019
Zeek is in financial trouble, having appointed a receiver.
This may mean that Zeek goes into administration and close down.
If you have any credit in your Zeek account, it is probably worth seeing if you can withdraw it, just in case the worst happens.
This is where Zeek comes in!
The next time you receive a gift voucher which is perhaps for a store you don’t use, you can now sell it using the marketplace smartphone app Zeek for cold hard cash.
Using Zeek is really straightforward. Once you’ve downloaded the free app from either Google Play or the App Store, you upload your unwanted gift voucher, set a price you’re happy with and wait for a buyer.
Once sold and the buyer pays, you’ll then send the voucher through to Zeek by registered post (the cost of postage will be refunded) who will verify the voucher and then forward it onto the buyer within seven working days. Electronic vouchers can be used straight away.
Zeek will charge the seller £3 for each voucher sold and you’ll receive payment within 14 days of the voucher being verified.
Buying vouchers from Zeek
If you’re looking to buy something from a particular shop then buying a gift voucher from Zeek can give you some substantial savings.
Some of the vouchers I saw on offer are:
£43 H.Samuel voucher for £35 (19% saving)
£200 Waterstones voucher for £157 (22% saving)
£50 Sunglasses Hut voucher for £40 (20% saving)
It obviously depends on what vouchers are available but with the app becoming more and more popular, there is a wide range available.
We have a friend who has just had a baby and so I managed to buy a £40 Mothercare voucher for just £35. A 13% saving for very little effort.
Zeek Bonus Time!
As an added bonus on top of making great savings with the Zeek app, you can also share the love with your friends and both receive money off when they make their first gift voucher purchase.
It works by sharing a link and a special discount code from within the Zeek app and when your friends use this for the first time, you’ll both receive £3 to spend on Zeek.
If you’d like to use my code and get a free £3 towards a gift voucher then all you need to do is download the Zeek app via this link and enter the code 2YSJYX.
Final Thoughts
With the UK voucher market worth an estimated £5 billion per year, and with £300 million of those vouchers going unused, Zeek is definitely on to something and are here to stay.
It’s an innovative idea and I would definitely use the app to both sell unwanted gift vouchers and buy vouchers at a discount going forward.
