Supermarkets opening hours over Easter weekend

Supermarkets opening hours over Easter Sunday and Easter weekend are different. Here’s when shops will be open, have reduced hours, or be shut.

Easter is coming around quickly, and if you are planning a family meal or just need to pop out for essentials, you need to plan when you can and can’t shop.

Because of the Bank Holidays, some supermarkets either reduce their hours or close to allow staff time to spend with their own families (or do whatever they want).

Although you may see Easter Saturday (8th) open as usual, you will likely see supermarkets opening hours on Good Friday on 7 April, Easter Sunday on 9 April and Easter Monday on 10 April are very different.

We’ve summarised the supermarkets opening hours over Easter, including Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, Iceland, Asda, Co-op and more, so you know when to shop (and when to stay in).

Aldi

Aldi is pretty much running their usual opening times over the long Easter weekend.

They will be closed on Easter Sunday and have slightly shorter hours on Easter Monday.

However, be sure to check local store opening hours as they may vary.

• Wednesday, 5 April – 8 AM – 10 PM
• Thursday, 6 April – 8 AM – 10 PM
• Good Friday, 7 April – 8 AM – 10 PM
• Easter Saturday, 8 April – 8 AM – 10 PM
• Easter Sunday, 9 April 2023 – CLOSED
• Easter Monday, 10 April – 8 AM – 8 PM

Asda

Asda has released their holiday hours for the Easter period, seeing them closed on Easter Sunday.

• Thursday, 6 April – 7 AM – 10 PM
• Good Friday, 7 April – 7 AM – 10 PM
• Easter Saturday, 8 April – 7 AM – 10 PM
• Easter Sunday, 9 April 2023 – CLOSED
• Easter Monday, 10 April – 7 AM – 8 PM
• Tuesday, 11 April – 7 AM – 10 PM

Co-op

Most Co-op convenience stores will be open over the Bank Holidays, apart from the much larger stores.

However, they have said that some stores may open later or close earlier than normal at some times of the year.

It’s best to check your local opening hours with your store, as they can vary.

Iceland

Iceland stores are expected to be open as usual on Good Friday, Saturday 8th, April and Easter Monday.

For any stores in a shopping centre, the hours will be dependent on the shopping centre opening times.

The stores are closed on Easter Sunday; however, again, where there is an Iceland in a shopping centre, the hours may be different.

Lidl

Bank Holiday hours vary depending on where your store is.

They either open from 6 AM – 11 PM or 8 AM – 8 PM.

However, they’ve not fully confirmed their opening times over the Easter weekend.

In previous years, the stores always close on Easter Sunday.

Morrisons

Morrisons store’s Easter opening hours have not been updated on their site.

It’s predicted they will be open as usual over the weekend, apart from Easter Sunday, when they will be closed in England and Wales (although open in Scotland).

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s seasonal opening times over Easter have been varied for 2023.

The majority of superstores stores will be open as usual on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.

However, they will be closed on Easter Sunday and run slightly reduced hours on Monday’s Bank Holiday. On Monday, 10 April, most stores will be open from 8 AM until 8 PM.

Local stores may continue to be open during their usual hours.

However, it’s always worth double-checking with your local (as hours vary).

Tesco

Tesco Superstores and Extras will be running reduced hours over the Easter period.

Their hours will usually be:

• Good Friday, 7 April – 6 AM – 10 PM
• Easter Sunday, 9 April 2023 – CLOSED
• Easter Monday, 10 April – 8 AM – 6 PM

Other hours over the weekend will run as usual.

Opening times at Tesco Express stores usually keep to normal timings, but you can check the opening times for your local store here.

Waitrose

Waitrose is adjusting their hours over the Easter weekend in their main shops and some of their Little Waitrose shops.

• Good Friday, 7 April – 8 AM – 8 PM
• Easter Saturday, 8 April – open as usual
• Easter Sunday, 9 April 2023 – CLOSED
• Easter Monday, 10 April – 8 AM – 8 PM

Little Waitrose stores will open from 6 AM until midnight on Good Friday and Easter Monday but will be shut on Easter Sunday.

As with other supermarkets, individual opening hours may vary, so check before you visit.
