Here, leading flooring retailer, Stories Flooring, reveals their top tips for how to buy a floor on a budget.

Choose your material

There are a lot of different types of floors available to choose from. To find a budget-friendly floor, you first need to consider the material you want to invest in.

Solid wood floors are generally the most expensive option. However, did you know you can achieve the same exquisite look with engineered wood flooring at a fraction of the cost?

There are hundreds of designs to choose from and they tend to last decades when looked after properly.

If engineered wood floors are still out of your price range, consider SPC or luxury vinyl. These cheaper floors are available in beautiful realistic wood and stone designs.

No matter what your budget, there is sure to be a floor to suit it.

Measure your chosen space carefully

When you find a floor that fits your price range, it’s time to figure out how much you need.

Before buying, it’s important to measure your chosen space carefully. Why? Because if you don’t, you could end up with a lot of flooring left over.

If you’re unsure how to measure your room, you’ll find some great tutorials online. Making sure you measure your space correctly will ensure you aren’t wasting money unnecessarily.

Consider buying in bulk

Did you know you could save money buying in bulk? If you have a large room to cover, or you plan on covering more than one room, bulk buying can save you a lot of money.

You’ll need to contact the flooring company to specify which floor you want to buy in bulk. After telling them how much you need, they will then quote you a discounted bulk price.

Take advantage of free samples

Another way to ensure you aren’t wasting money on your new flooring is to take advantage of free samples. These allow you to see the design and quality of the floor up close. From this, you’ll get a good idea of whether it is the right option for you.

If you buy a floor without seeing it first, there is a possibility you may not like it when it arrives. This would lead to increased costs having to return the floor.

Not all flooring companies offer free samples, particularly for certain branded floors. Stories Flooring has a wide range of free samples from the biggest flooring brands.

The company has recently become a Kahrs Platinum Retailer, meaning it has over 90 samples in stock from this one brand alone.

Choose a floor that is easy to install

These days, you can find floors that you can install completely by yourself. This can save you a small fortune as you won’t need to bring in professionals.

LVT, SPC and laminate floors tend to be the easiest to install.

They typically come with a click system, allowing the planks and tiles to simply click into place. You won’t need any messy adhesive or previous floor fitting experience.

Stories Flooring engineered hardwood floors can also be a breeze to fit. They tend to come with a tongue and groove system, enabling you to benefit from a floating floor installation.

While it is a little more time consuming than click system installation, you should still be able to do it by yourself.

Some of the newer engineered wood floors do offer click system installation, but tongue and groove remain the most common system used.

Choose a reliable supplier

One of the best ways to buy flooring on a budget is to make sure you’re choosing a reliable supplier. The cost isn’t the only thing to consider as if you invest in a poor-quality floor, you’ll spend more repairing or replacing it over time.

Make sure you choose a retailer that specialises in offering the biggest brands at the lowest prices. Stories Flooring offers the best quality floors from the biggest brands at up to 65% off RRP.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to buy flooring on a budget.

Thanks to the huge amount of choice available, you’ll always be able to find something to match your budget and preferences.
