If you’ve got a child aged 11 to 17, NatWest is offering a simple way to give them a little boost and teach them how to manage money at the same time.

Right now, any young person who opens a new NatWest Adapt account can get £20 for free.
It’s not a huge windfall, but for something that takes just a few minutes to set up, it’s a handy way to give your child’s savings a head start.

How the £20 offer works
The deal is open to new or existing NatWest customers, as long as the child doesn’t already have an Adapt account. To qualify for the £20 bonus, you just need to:
- Open a NatWest Adapt account through the NatWest website, app, by phone, or in a branch.
- Keep the account open for at least 40 days.
- Make sure your child is a UK resident aged between 11 and 17.
Once those steps are done, NatWest will pay £20 directly into the child’s account within 40 days of opening it. For example, if your child applies on 1 November, the £20 should arrive by around 11 December.
There’s only one payment per account, and the money won’t be paid if the account is closed before the 40 days are up.
Who can open the account
This part’s important, as it depends on your child’s age:
- Ages 11 to 15: A parent or guardian with a NatWest current account must apply with the child.
- Ages 16 to 17: Teens can apply by themselves, without needing a parent to bank with NatWest.
That makes it an easy option for families who already use NatWest, and a good starter account for older teens looking for a bit of independence.
What is a NatWest Adapt account?
The Adapt account is a free current account designed for young people. There are no monthly fees and no overdrafts, so there’s no risk of them getting into debt.
It comes with a contactless debit card, online and mobile banking, and the chance to earn a bit of interest on their balance.
Parents can still have some visibility and guidance, especially for younger account holders.
Why it’s worth doing
Banks don’t often hand out free cash without asking for much in return. This one’s a decent little bonus and a good way to help kids understand money before they get their first job or move away for college.
It could be a great first step in showing them how to save, track spending, and make decisions with real money rather than pocket change.

Skint Dad says:
It’s not about the £20, it’s about giving your kids a head start with money. Learning early can make a big difference later on.
A few things to note
- The £20 bonus can be changed or withdrawn at any time, but if you’ve applied before it ends, you’ll still get it.
- You can only get one £20 payment per account.
- The account must stay open for at least 40 days to get the payment.
- The £20 will be paid within 40 days of opening the account.
Quick tip
If your child already gets pocket money or a small allowance, you could pay it into their Adapt account each week instead of handing over cash. That way, they’ll learn to manage their balance through the app and see how quickly small amounts can add up.
