We still can’t quite get over the fact that we’re saying goodbye to Toys R Us.

And I know they were sometimes a tad bit expensive (especially compared to online stores such as Amazon and The Entertainer). But their jingles are a reminder of my childhood and their stores saved my sanity many times on the weekends.

Maybe one of the reasons they couldn’t keep going was that no one bought anything but used it as a place for free childcare.

Instead of heading to an expensive soft play, we’d spend a few hours walking around the aisles of Toys R Us with the kids. They loved just browsing all the different ranges.

They don’t get quite as excited when I suggested doing the same thing at B&Q or DFS!

Bye bye Toys R Us

With the demise of Toys R Us came the rush to use up any gift vouchers, grab a bargain (although not many have been found) and return any unwanted or broken items.

Next up was obviously going to be the close of their loyalty programme.

As a self-confessed hoarder of loyalty cards, I have to admit Toys R Us was never one of my favourites.

We shopped there once in a blue moon so points didn’t really add up.

Their reward for being on the scheme was a discount voucher issued later in the year. This is great, although I never earned enough to get one. The whole thing never really worked for me if I’m honest.

So, now they are no longer valid, I thought my Toys R Us loyalty card could be put to some new good uses, but Smyth Toys has a better idea.

20% off at Smyths Toys Superstores

Toys R Us Gold Card

Grab your worthless Toys R Us loyalty card, head to Smyths Toys and they will give you a bonus 20% off at the tills.

The discount will be on the latest marked price and this offer is available in-store only.

Just hand over one of the following cards to claim your discount:

  • Toys R Us Gold Card
  • Toys R Us Platinum Card
  • Toys R Us Baby R Us Card
  • Toys R Us Platinum Baby R Us Card
  • Toys R Us Gold Baby R Us Card

They’ll take your card from you so you won’t be able to use it again. That said, it won’t make much difference (unless you’re really connected to it) as Toys R Us have stopped the loyalty scheme now anyway.

You can’t use the 20% discount at the same time as any other offers or money off vouchers and you can’t use it to get cheaper gift vouchers.

While their home page says the offer is running in store only today, the terms and conditions say the offer is valid until 31 March 2018.
