There is a great and easy way to save money on your food shop at Morrisons.
By downloading the My Morrisons App, you can get access to offers and vouchers every week.
What’s more, these offers are personalised to stuff you’re actually going to use rather than random discounts that are of no interest.
Take a look at how we’ve got on using the My Morrisons App, as well as our £40 meal plan and food shop.
My Morrisons App
Morrisons first launched the Match and More Card in 2014. The idea was you built up points to get money off your food shop later on.
However, they’ve found we prefer instant money off and can now make immediate and weekly savings at the supermarket.
So, Morrisons has relaunched the My Morrisons loyalty scheme enabling us to get on-the-spot discounts and rewards.
Using weekly personalised offers, you can make some huge savings, and we’ve done precisely that.
Everyone will get different offers as it’s all based on what you actually buy. This way, you will get money off stuff you really want.
The more you scan your My Morrisons card at checkout, the more personalised the offers will be to you.
For instance, for a recent shop, we had:
- £3 off a £30 shop
- 15% off frozen chips, frozen vegetables or frozen potatoes
- 10% off whole chickens or chicken breasts, wings and thighs
- 10% off bath and shower gel & soaps
- 20% off dried pasta or rice
I’ve also seen discounts on fresh fruit and veg, cereal, and money off bread in other weeks.
The discounts aren’t just on branded products, but you can use them on Morrisons own-brand foods as well. Plus, the offers work on top of any other deals running in store.
I genuinely love that I will be saving money on things I want and buy.
To make the best savings possible, I look at the digital coupons on the app or Morrisons website before creating our meal plan for the week.
This way, we can be sure to get the best overall discount.
Once you’ve got your shopping list ready, you need to activate the offers on the website or in the app before checking out.
Then, simply scan your digital card straight from the app when you’re at the till, or you can continue to use your Morrisons More card.
All your discounts are applied automatically, and you’ll make immediate savings.
Morrisons £40 meal plan
Using the offers on the Morrisons app, we planned a week’s worth of dinners for a family of four.
At the checkout, it totalled £41.71. However, with the Morrisons More Discount, we saved £5.17 and got the shop down to £36.54.
Here’s what we did:
|Monday||Mixed bean chilli with rice||Tins of red kidney beans and mixed beans, a tin of tomatoes, onion, red pepper, mushrooms, carrot, rice (20% off rice). Spices from the cupboard.|
|Tuesday||Burgers, wedges and sweetcorn||Minced beef, egg, burger buns, frozen potato wedges, frozen sweetcorn (15% off frozen veg).|
|Wednesday||Carbonara||Bacon, spaghetti (20% off dried pasta), eggs, milk, dwarf beans. Cheddar cheese from a previous week.|
|Thursday||Chicken fajitas with rice||Chicken breasts (10% off chicken), red peppers, onions, wraps, rice (20% off rice). Spices from the cupboard.|
|Friday||Fish, chips and mushy peas||Haddock, frozen chips (15% off frozen chips), frozen peas (15% off frozen veg).|
|Saturday||Meatball pasta bake||Minced beef, x2 tins of tomatoes, mushrooms, dwarf beans, sweetcorn (15% off frozen veg), carrots, fusilli pasta (20% off dried pasta), red pepper.|
|Sunday||Roast chicken with all the trimmings||Whole chicken (10% off chicken), potatoes, sage and onion stuffing, carrots, peas (15% off frozen veg), broccoli, Yorkshire pudding. Gravy from the cupboard.|
We always make sure that we have basic ingredients like flour, oils and spices.
As we will only use a small amount each meal, we don’t need to buy these things week in, week out.
We won’t use the whole pack of spaghetti for something like the carbonara, so we will have some spare for a coming week too.
As well as getting personalised digital coupons to save money on your food shop, My Morrisons gives you a whole lot more on top.
Manage your shopping list
Instead of writing your shopping list on a bit of paper (then leaving it on the kitchen counter! Anyone else do that?!), you can manage your grocery list straight from the My Morrisons app.
Click Account from the bottom bar, and you can find the shopping lists there.
Add what you want to shop for, and the app will show you the products you can pick up in store.
Don’t worry about how you enter everything as, when you’re ready, you can choose to order the list by location in the store, making it easy to know what you need to get from where.
As you shop, you can tick off the items. It makes shopping that little bit easier and smoother.
The app keeps handy to know information all in one place too. You can use the app to find your closest store or fuel station.
It also lets you order from the Morrisons Cafe Takeaway or order through their EatFresh meals or food boxes.
My Morrisons Clubs
The My Morrisons App acts as a central hub for other rewards and treats.
You can join different clubs to get extra special offers.
If you work for the NHS, you can join the NHS Club and get 10% off every shop in a Morrisons store, plus offers and special treats.
For teachers, you can get money off coupons, competitions and free products.
There is a Baby Club for parents where you can get special offers on baby products and member-only treats.
You’ve got the Christmas Savings Club to help save for any extra money you might spend in December and a Student Club to help university students get discounts.
