Tesco meal deal price hike: your lunch just got more expensive

by Ricky Willis · updated 20 August 2025

Bad news for lunch lovers: Tesco has quietly nudged up the price of its meal deals again.

From 21 August 2025, the cost of your favourite sandwich-snack-drink combo has risen, and if you don’t have a Clubcard, you’ll feel it even more.

The new prices

Get the £10 bonus

  • Standard meal deal (includes Tesco sandwiches, wraps, salads, sushi, etc.)
    • Clubcard price: £3.85 (up from £3.60)
    • Regular price (without a Clubcard): £4.25
  • Finest/branded meal deal (includes Tesco Finest or branded sandwiches, wraps, rolls, salads, or sushi)
    • Clubcard price: £5.50 (up from £5)
    • Regular price (without a Clubcard): £6.00

That means if you’re picking a posh wrap, a fancier drink and a snack, you could now be paying up to £6 without a Clubcard.

Ouch!!

How much more will this cost you?

Let’s say you grab a standard Tesco meal deal three times a week:

  • Before: £3.50 x 3 = £10.50 per week
  • Now: £3.85 x 3 = £11.55 per week

That’s an extra £54 a year just for the same sandwich, snack and Coke.

And if you don’t have a Clubcard? You’ll fork out an eye-watering £663 a year if you grab one every weekday.

Skint Dad’s top tip:

If you’re still buying meal deals without a Clubcard, you’re basically tipping Tesco for free. Get one or get fleeced.

Is it still worth it?

Whether Tesco’s meal deal is still “worth it” depends on what you’re getting.

Some drinks alone cost nearly £2 if bought separately, so bundling them together can still save you a couple of quid – but only if you’ve got a Clubcard.

Without one, it’s usually cheaper to buy the bits separately or go elsewhere.

And, if you’ve got a Clubcard, you’ll get the cheaper price and tot up points throughout the year to buy more food or swap for experiences and days out.

Skint Dad tip: shop around

Tesco isn’t the only player in the meal deal game:

  • Boots: £3.99 for a wide range of options, often better for pricier snacks.
  • Co-op: Around £3.75, but varies regionally.
  • Sainsbury’s: £3.50 for Clubcard-style users.
  • Greggs: Breakfast meal deals start from £2.60, and lunchtime combos from £3.60.

If you’re grabbing lunch every day, even small swaps could save you £100+ a year.

Make sure you ask for a receipt and take a photo using one of these apps so you can earn money back on your lunch.

Final bite

Tesco’s meal deal used to feel like a no-brainer, but with the price hikes, it’s worth double-checking if you’re still getting real value.

And if you don’t have a Clubcard, sign up!

What’s the point in your wallet taking the hit!
