by Naomi Willis · updated 24 November 2021

Get 50% off any railcard with a new discount code released by The Trainline for Black Friday, saving you a 1/3 on rail travel for a year.

A Railcard is an easy way to save 1/3 on the price of rail travel for an entire year.

Even if you only make one journey, getting a Railcard pays for itself with the savings you’ll make.

Plus, right now, you can save 50% with a special Black Friday deal from The Trainline.

Here’s what you need to know.

Update – 26 November 2021

Unfortunately, The Trainline have withdrawn this offer 3 weeks early.

The Railcard discount code was meant to be live until 17 December 2021, but due to too much demand, they’ve pulled it.

While this was a great offer, there are still deals out there to get a Railcard absolutely free.

Scroll down for details on how to get cheap or free rail travel and Railcards.

As part of their Black Friday offers, The Trainline has a new discount code to save 50% off the price of any digital Railcard.

Use the code RAILCARD50 at checkout to give you an automatic 50% off.

This offer runs through The Trainline, and you won’t get the deal if you buy a Railcard directly from National Rail.

Although you’re buying it through the Trainline, you can use the Railcard to get a discount on train tickets you buy from anywhere, including through online sites, through a ticket office or directly on a train.

There are nine different kinds of Railcards to pick from, and the best one depends on who you’ll travel with.

  • Network Railcard
  • 16-17 Saver
  • 16-25 Railcard
  • 26-30 Railcard
  • Family & Friends Railcard
  • Two Together Railcard
  • Senior Railcard
  • Disabled Persons Railcard
  • Veterans Railcard

You can find more information about each of the Railcards and find out which is best for you here.

How much is a Railcard?

Each Railcard usually cost £30 a whole year.

However, you pay £20 for the Disabled Persons Railcard.

With a Railcard, you get 1/3 off the price of rail travel, which sees you travel far cheaper than paying the face value.

You can also choose to get a three-year card, which can save even more money with certain cards.

When can I use a Railcard?

With most Railcards, you can use them to get discounted fares during Off-Peak times, weekends, and public holidays.

Other ways to get cheap Railcards and train travel

While this is a one-off deal for Black Friday, there are other ways to save money on your train travel.

If you are a Tesco Clubcard holder, you can triple the value of your points when you want a Railcard.

Every £1 in Clubcard vouchers gives you £3 to spend on a Railcard.

I generally use this offer to get a free Family and Friends Railcard (with £10 of saved Clubcard vouchers).

The Railcard has saved us hundreds of pounds of train travel when we’ve had family days out, visited relatives in other parts of the country or when we’ve been on a staycation.

Another option if you receive Jobseekers Allowance or Universal Credit is a JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card.

It’s a free card to apply for, and it gets you 50% off train travel.

You can also use it on some bus services and use the discount card to get 50% off pay as you go credit on an Oyster card.

The code is not working for me. A message appears saying I am late in buying but the offer is meant to last until 17 December 21. No way of sorting problem as Trainline don’t communicate.

Unfortunately, the Trainline pulled the offer early due to unprecedented demand.

    Disgusting!!!!

Offer a deal and withdraw almost 3 weeks earlier?

Was there ever a “real deal”.

    Poor poor business.

Maybe time to avoid Trainline .
