The World Wide Web is huge! The amount of information available is beyond comprehension and it would take you multiple lifetimes to digest a fraction of it. Just the other day I was looking for a guide to changing something on my blog and I was presented with over 67,000 results!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not complaining. I’m just pointing out that unless you are looking for something in particular you may get bamboozled with the results. And even if you do know what you’re looking for, you may still end up wasting precious time looking through each result to find the best answer to your query.

When it comes to searching about what I love the most – money saving – this again can be a minefield. Just searching for the term ‘money saving tools’ brings back 94,200,000 pages!! That’s a lot of tools to choose from don’t you think?! Luckily I’m going to help you a little and give you the low-down on my top five FREE money saving tools you need in your life.

Budget Brain

Want to know where you stand financially? Well you need to check out Budget Brain from MoneySavingExpert.com. It will take you at least an hour to complete but once finished you have the info to take back control of your finances. This budgeting tool is the most comprehensive I’ve ever come across and I’ve come across my fair share.

The great thing I love about this tool is the added value it provides with linked content from the rest of the MSE site. Whether you want to find out about pensions, savings or to see if you’re paying too much council tax, as you fill in the budget you will be given links to these subjects and a whole lot more. Check it out today.

Money Dashboard

From working out the state of your finances to keeping track of them on a day-to-day basis, I bring you the second of my powerful money saving tools that is Money Dashboard. This brilliant tool gives you the power to take all of your credit card, bank and savings accounts and link them together to your personal money dashboard. Once here, you can easily track transactions and manage your money throughout the month so you know exactly what’s coming in and what’s going out. It gives you a real time view of your finances.

This free money saving tool is packed with powerful features. As transactions take place it will automatically generate tags for your outgoings, separating them into obvious groups. It’s because of this you are able to save money as you will be able to monitor your transactions down to the last penny. Never again will you miss that direct debit or forget to transfer those funds for that end of the month credit card bill.

MySupermarket

If you haven’t come across mySupermarket.co.uk before you’re in for a treat. Out of all the of money saving tools this is a favourite of mine and it’s where I save the most. mySupermarket is a grocery shopping website which allows you to make comparisons from the largest supermarkets in the UK. You can do a normal online shop like you would with your regular supermarket but, as you place items into your basket, mySupermarket will inform you of alternative items that will save you money.

One of the reasons I love this money saving tool is because you have total control over your grocery shopping. No longer are you tied to what the supermarket has on its shelf. Now you have the power to pick, choose and change the supermarket you use each week, and not worry about knowing your way around the store or wondering if they’ll have that favourite variety of beans you love. This really is a powerful tool which will save you mega money if used regularly.

Water Energy Calculator

The Water Energy Calculator from the Energy Saving Trust will show you how much water and energy you use in your household. There are a few of these nifty money saving tools online but unlike other calculators this one is pretty damn cool! You go on a virtual tour around your home answering a plethora of questions including how many showers you take a week, how old your toilet is and how many cups of tea you make.

Once all the information is entered, you are presented with a really detailed report from which you can see exactly where and how you’re able to save money and reduce your water consumption. It even goes as far as to give you information on how to contact your local water company for water saving devices. You’ll be silly not to give this money saving tool a once or twice over.

uSwitch

If you want an impartial comparison site where you can compare prices for a wide variety of services including personal finance, energy and insurance you don’t need to look further than the one-stop shop that is uSwitch. Using their easy to navigate site, this money saving tool makes it a seamless process to switch supplier and save you money at the same time.

As well as saving you a wad of cash, they also offer a multitude of online guides to help you make the right decision when you do switch. From choosing the right broadband supplier to finding the best mobile phone tariff, they really are an information rich resource. As an added tip, when using uSwitch make sure you go through a cashback site such as Quidco or TopCashback as they have lots of monetary incentives which will put even more cash in your pocket.

I hope you have found these five money saving tools useful. There is nothing better than being able to save a little extra cash for those rainy days. As a final note, I would really love it if you add to this list by leaving your favourite money saving tools in the comments below. With thousands of pages to search I am sure there are ones that even I don’t know about.

Rob, mint is good but it doean’t work in the UK. In the UK we has OnTrees which was just bought by the MoneySupermarket (I think).

Hi,how would you compare MoneyDashboard with Yourwealth.MoneyDashboard seems better at giving you a spending breakdown (more tag support ) with charts etc whereas yourwealth has smartphone app which is quite handy.

YourWealth’s money hub does look good too. There are loads of money savings tools out there, it was hard to narrow it down to just 5
