Asda ends Blue Light Card discount for NHS and emergency workers

by Naomi Willis · updated 13 May 2025

Millions of NHS staff and emergency workers are about to lose a popular discount at Asda – and it’s left many feeling let down.

Asda has announced that its partnership with the Blue Light Card scheme is ending on 27th May 2025.

From 13th May at 11am, Blue Light Card members could no longer link their discount to the Asda Rewards app. Then, from the end of the month, the deal will disappear altogether.

This move comes as a blow to those working in healthcare, emergency services, social care, teachers (who were only recently added to the scheme) and the armed forces, who have been using the 5% back offer on selected fresh products in-store.

With food prices still high and many families feeling the pinch, losing this small boost can make a big difference.

What was the deal?

Blue Light Card holders could link their account to the Asda Rewards app and get 5% back in Asda Pounds on certain fresh products. This included things like meat, fruit and veg, dairy, bread and fresh fish.

The cashback went into your Asda Rewards Cashpot, which you could then use on your next shop.

But there were limits. You could earn up to £100 a day, and it didn’t include Just Essentials, alcohol, online orders, or non-fresh products.

And now it’s going.

When does the deal end?

  • 13 May 2025 (11am) – you can no longer link your Blue Light Card to the Asda Rewards app
  • 27 May 2025 (11:59pm) – the deal ends completely. After this, no more 5% cashback for Blue Light Card users

Why is it ending?

Asda hasn’t given a reason, and neither have Blue Light Card.

The terms have always said the offer can be withdrawn at any time.

It’s worth noting that other supermarkets do still offer some perks for key workers.

We’ve pulled together a full guide to Blue Light Card discounts which shows where you can still save.

What can you do now?

  • Use up your Asda Pounds – if you’ve been earning cashback, make sure you spend what’s in your Cashpot before it gets forgotten
  • Check our full list of Blue Light Card discounts – there are still savings to be had at places like Iceland, New Look, Halfords and more
  • Sign up to Asda Rewards anyway – while the Blue Light offer is ending, the regular app still has personalised offers, “missions” and rewards

Losing this perk is frustrating, especially when every little helps.

But don’t let this be the end of your savings.

There are still plenty of ways to get money off your food shop and keep your spending in check.
