Councils across the country have been told to extend the time needed to pay council tax rebates of £150 for eligible households.
While some 19.1 million households have already been paid by the end of September 2022, people are still missing out.
Councils have now been given a new deadline of 30 November for some 300,000 claims that have not been submitted yet.

£150 council tax rebate deadline extended
While most households have already received or claimed the £150 council tax rebate, people are still missing out on free money.
The government realises this and has extended the deadline for when you can claim.
You now have until 30 November 2022 (it was 30 September) to put in your claim to your local council.
The deadline won’t be extended again.
It’s based on council tax bands, not income
The payment is available to most households who live in a council tax band A to D on 1 April 2022.
This isn’t means-tested, and you don’t need to be on any type of benefit.
It is purely based on the council tax band you live in, regardless if you’re in a private rental, live in social housing or own the property.
The £150 rebate does not have to be paid back.
Contact your council
If you have not received your payment yet, get in touch with your council to put in a claim.
People who pay by direct debit would likely have already had the payment.
However, you may have missed it if you pay another way or moved and didn’t pass on a forwarding address.
The council tax rebate was part of a support package to help with rising costs, first announced in April 2022.
The non-repayable rebate is in addition to the £400 energy grant, which is paid monthly until April 2023.
Levelling Up Minister Dehenna Davison said:
“Thanks to the tireless work of councils, more than 99% of eligible households up and down the country have received their council tax rebate.
“We are now extending the deadline to claim the £150 payment to ensure as many eligible households as possible receive this payment – I urge everyone to check their eligibility and contact their local council if they have not already.”
