Free pizza making kits from Morrisons over half term

by Naomi Willis · updated 9 February 2021

This February half term, Morrisons is giving away 60,000 pizza making kits to families across the UK.

As free school meal vouchers will not be offered this half term, in a bid to help prevent holiday hunger, the supermarket is helping kids with a free meal.

Pizzas will be made fresh each day by staff working on the pizza counter.

Each of the pizza-making kits includes two servings. They started this week in Scotland and will start next weeks for England and Wales in line with the half-term break.

There will either be vegetarian or pepperoni to choose from. The kits include ready to roll pizza dough and the toppings for kids to make at home.

A recipe card will also be included with cooking instructions, and there will be details of a competition that families can enter on social media to win £100 in Morrisons vouchers.

For your chance to win the vouchers, you need to post a picture on Instagram with the hashtag #PizzaKitWin showing your pizza creation.

Here’s an example:

Kits will be sent out to local schools and community groups, via the Morrisons community Champions. They will not be available to buy in store.

Sian Ayling, Head of Food To Go at Morrisons, said:

“We want to ensure that as many children as possible have access to the food they need over the half term break, which is why we’re offering these pizza kits to those who need them in our local communities and would encourage as many people as possible to get involved with our competition.”

If you’re shopping in store, you can buy pre-made bags of food in Morrisons as an easier way to donate to food banks.

Each local food bank has different needs (and many of them have too much pasta and rice).

Instead of working out what they want, your store will have “Pick Up Packs” created costing from £1 to £5 with foods people really need.

You can either pick one up at the start of your shop, or you’ll find them at the till. Once you’ve paid for it, the pack will be put aside and collected by the food bank.

Cheap food

Consider a Too Good to Go Magic Bag if you’re looking for cheap food over the half term.

You’re not sure what you’ll get in a bag, but you’ll find food near to it’s use by or best before date.

We’ve had a couple, and they can be hit and miss. When you get a good bag, it’s great!

COVID Winter Grant Scheme

Although families won’t get free school meals during the February half term, families can look to use the COVID Winter Grant Scheme to receive meals and other essentials.

Rather than vouchers or meal hampers from schools, support is available through local authorities.

The grant fund can help with the fuel bills and food for vulnerable families.

Contact your local council for support.
