When a supermarket gives something away for free, it usually disappears faster than a yellow-stickered pizza on a Friday night.
Lidl has gone one step further and tucked a handful of £100 vouchers inside special gingerbread house kits, and anyone can try their luck.

Here’s how it works and how to get one before they’re gone.
What Lidl is giving away
To celebrate opening its 1,000th UK store in East Grinstead, Lidl has created a limited run of gingerbread house kits shaped like the new shop.
They’re not regular kits, as 10 of them also have a £100 Lidl Plus voucher hidden inside.
You don’t need to buy anything to enter.
Lidl is giving away 1,000 kits for free online from 10 am on Thursday, 27 November, and once they’re gone, that’s it.
What comes inside the kit
Each box has everything needed to build your own mini Lidl store at home. This includes:
- Handmade gingerbread panels
- Icing
- Candy cane bollards
- Chocolate decorations
- Edible Lidl billboards
The kit was created by a Sussex-based gingerbread maker called Fay Millar, so it’s not just a cheap freebie thrown together. It’s a proper festive project you can build with the kids.
How the £100 voucher works
Hidden inside 10 of the kits is a gift-wrapped Lidl Plus voucher worth £100.
If you’re one of the lucky ones, you can spend it on anything in store.
And, I’m sure that many people will use it towards their Christmas shopping, which makes a real difference right now.

Skint Dad says:
If you manage to get one of the winning kits, that’s your sprouts, potatoes, turkey and puddings sorted without touching your bank balance.
How to get one of the free kits
You’ll need to be quick.
Lidl will release 1,000 kits online at 10 am on 27 November. They cannot be bought in-store. Once the stock runs out, they won’t be doing another batch.
The countdown is already on at the gingerbread giveaway site. If you want the best chance, make sure you have the Lidl Plus app ready.
Why Lidl is doing this
The giveaway ties in with the supermarket reaching a huge milestone: its 1,000th UK store. It’s also a clever way to shine a light on its new tech rollout.
Alongside the kits, Lidl has just introduced a self-scanning feature inside the Lidl Plus app.
This lets shoppers scan items as they shop, then pay at a special self-checkout. It’s currently in a small trial and is planned to expand through 2026.
While other supermarkets have offered this for years, it’s still new for budget chains, so Lidl is catching up with a feature customers already expect.
Is it worth trying for?
There’s no cost, the kits are fun, and the chance of winning £100 is decent considering only 1,000 kits exist.
Worst case, you get nothing, or you get lucky and win a free gingerbread house to decorate at home. Best case, your festive shop becomes £100 cheaper.
You might remember a few years back that Lidl released charity beauty boxes priced at just £2 each.
But the minute they went live, they vanished. The queue ballooned, and the site crashed.
Before many people even managed to check out, the boxes were already popping up on eBay for as much as £50. Resellers had clearly spotted the opportunity.
So when the new gingerbread kit drop launches, it’s fair to wonder: will the same thing happen again? If stock is low and hype is high, you might need to move fast.
Quick tips for your best chance
- Be online a few minutes before 10 am on 27 November.
- Have the Lidl Plus app installed so you’re already signed in.
- Expect the website to be busy!
- Don’t waste your time waiting in the queue for 15 minutes, as they’ll likely already be gone. Double check for reports on social media if they’re sold out before you give up your place.
- If you get one, open it carefully so you don’t miss the voucher.
