Tesco shoppers can get 8p off a litre of fuel after a £60 shop – how it works

by Ricky Willis · published 1 October 2026 at 19:06

Tesco shoppers can now get 8p off a litre of fuel after spending £60 or more in store.

The offer runs on qualifying Tesco shopping from 1 October to 18 October 2026, and the fuel coupon can be used until 25 October 2026.

You do not need a Clubcard to get the coupon. Tesco confirmed the full terms of the promotion in an email sent to customers on 1 October 2026.

How the Tesco 8p fuel offer works

To qualify, you need to spend at least £60 in one Tesco in-store transaction after any discounts, promotions and coupons have been applied.

Tesco then prints the fuel coupon at the bottom of your receipt.

You need to keep the paper coupon and hand it over at the petrol station kiosk when you pay for your fuel. Only one coupon can be used in each fuel transaction.

The coupon cannot be used through Pay at Pump or at unmanned petrol stations. It also cannot be used at Tesco Express stores selling Esso fuel or on the Isle of Man.

Tesco’s terms say minimum fuel purchase requirements apply, although the customer email confirming the October promotion does not state what that minimum is.

If you are unsure whether your local forecourt can accept the coupon, check the Tesco store locator before making a special journey.

How much can you actually save?

The discount is 8p per litre, up to the maximum £8 saving, so the amount you save depends on how much fuel you put in.

  • 40 litres = £3.20 saving
  • 50 litres = £4 saving
  • 60 litres = £4.80 saving

Tesco has set a maximum saving of £8 on one coupon.

At 8p a litre, you reach that £8 maximum at 100 litres. Tesco does not say that you cannot buy more than 100 litres, only that the total discount is capped at £8.

That means a normal family-car fill-up is more likely to save a few pounds rather than the full £8.

What counts towards the £60 spend?

The £60 has to be spent in one transaction in a Tesco store.

Online Tesco grocery orders and Whoosh orders do not qualify.

Tesco also excludes spending at its cafés, tobacco kiosks, opticians, phone stores, concessions, Travel Money and Tesco Bank.

Lottery products, e-top ups, savings stamps, postage stamps, carrier bags, prescription medicines and infant formula do not count towards the qualifying spend either.

The important point is that your qualifying basket still needs to total at least £60 after discounts, promotions and coupons have been taken off.

Do you need a Tesco Clubcard?

No. Tesco specifically says Clubcard is not required for this fuel offer.

That makes the promotion different from many supermarket deals where shoppers need to scan a loyalty card or use an app.

Is the Tesco fuel deal worth it?

It can be if you were already going to spend £60 at Tesco and need fuel.

For example, a 60-litre fill saves £4.80.

But spending more on groceries just to reach £60 could easily wipe out the fuel saving.

It is also worth comparing the actual pump price before you fill up. An 8p discount does not automatically make Tesco the cheapest option if another nearby petrol station starts from a lower price.

We have more tips on keeping supermarket spending under control in our guide to weekly shopping versus shopping little and often.

How does it compare with Asda’s current fuel offer?

Asda is also running a fuel promotion.

Asda Rewards customers who spend £40 or more in one in-store transaction between 23 September and 14 October 2026 receive a 5p-per-litre fuel coupon in the Asda Rewards app.

The coupon can be used on one fuel purchase until 31 October 2026 at participating Asda and Asda Express sites selling Asda-branded fuel. Asda’s original announcement has the full details.

On 60 litres, Tesco’s 8p discount saves £4.80, compared with £3 under Asda’s 5p offer.

However, Asda has the lower qualifying grocery spend at £40, while Tesco requires £60. Tesco does not require a loyalty card, while the Asda offer is for Asda Rewards customers.

You can read our full guide to the current Asda 5p fuel offer for more detail.

The key dates

Qualifying Tesco shop: 1 October to 18 October 2026.

Fuel coupon expiry: 25 October 2026.

If you were already planning a £60 Tesco shop and need to fill the car, the coupon is worth keeping. Just make sure you use it at an eligible staffed Tesco petrol station kiosk before it expires.
