The busiest day when it comes to shopping is normally a Saturday. People aren’t at work and can fit in a trip to the food shop to re-fill the fridge.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have the cash to fill their fridge and charities who work with hungry people need help too.

Soup kitchens for homeless people, breakfast clubs for vulnerable children and luncheon clubs for the elderly really need support with food donations so they can provide meals and support to people that need help.

Families who need to use food banks also need support with food boxes to help feed themselves for a few days.

From 3 July to 5 July (today is the last day) Trussell Trust and FareShare have been running a nationwide food collection to get emergency food for those in need.

If you are one of those people heading out to a supermarket this weekend then maybe you could see your way via Tesco to make a food donation.

Now I’m not saying you have to shop in Tesco but you could just add an item (or two…) of food to their donation such as:

  • UHT Milk (49p)
  • Sugar (79p)
  • Fruit Juice (65p)
  • Pasta Sauce (39p)
  • Tinned sponge pudding (£1.29)
  • Tinned tomatoes (34p)
  • Tinned vegetables (from 19p)
  • Cereals (from 31p)
  • Tinned rice pudding (15p)
  • Tea (20p)
  • Coffee (50p)
  • Instant mash potato (28p)
  • Tinned meat/fish (from 34p)
  • Tinned fruit (from 35p)
  • Jam (29p)
  • Biscuits (23p)

Plus, for every item above that is donated, Tesco will add 30% to the total given!

The donations made are distributed to local food banks so you’ll be happy to know that your donation will help someone in your community.

If you are heading out to the shops, why not just drop an item off in the donation.

Trussell Trust and FareShare will accept donations throughout the year so, if you don’t do it this weekend, feel free to do it another time.

Have a good weekend!
