Want to get wholesale prices so you can bulk buy drinks, groceries and cleaning products, but don’t run a business or charity? No problem!

If you want to get wholesale, cheaper prices for products like drinks, groceries, sweets and cleaning products then you will need to have a Tradecard.

It sounds easy enough but the only way to get a Tradecard is to show that you have a business or be a charity.

While the amount of people becoming self employed and starting their own businesses is rising year on year, there are still even more people who would not be able to get access to a wholesale retailer. You need to be able to show proof that you have a business or run a charity by showing relevant ID.

However, there is a loophole to get around this.

If you choose to shop online at Makro, then you don’t actually need to have registered to get one of their in store trade cards.

You can choose the items you want to buy, add them to your checkout and then away you go! You’ll be able to bulk buy on everyday household goods.

Are there any good deals at Makro?

The best things you’ll find are going to be things that may not form part of a necessary weekly food shop.

Cleaning products can work out cheaper as well as bin bags (if you are a fan of buying branded).

Also, the sell bulk sized jars and tubs of sweets from their tuck shop. It may seem like a huge amount but if you have a wedding, birthday, Halloween or other party that you need to have a lot of stock for, then it may work out far cheaper than buying individual packs.

If you have a particular love for budget sauce or ketchup (non branded) then you will also manage to stock up for much cheaper than a supermarket.

If you don’t have the storage space to keep a load of bulk bought products from a wholesaler, then why not chip in with friends and family. Decide on what you want, how you’ll split in and what you all want to pay and you may find you save a fortune on your grocery shop over time.

What’s the catch?

Well, the biggest issue is that the prices and offers in store are not the same as online.

In a Makro store, they will usually run special offers like buy one get one free, but you will not be able to take advantage of this.

Also, the prices on Makro may not actually be cheaper than anywhere else. If you think about it, this will be the same for what you buy from anywhere!

The best thing you can do is take a look on Amazon Pantry to see what offers they have or take a look at MySupermarket to do high street supermarket comparison.

Be sure to look at the price per unit to see how much of a saving you are likely to make.

Make sure you take into account any delivery charges as they will also push the price up. Delivery costs range from £4.99 for standard delivery to £9.99 if you want it before noon the next day.

The price difference isnt that great tbh. I have both Makro & Booker cards and unless you can claim the VAT back it’s not worth having the cards really. You have to be VAT registered if you earn over 85k a year so luckily I can claim back VAT. Some things are cheaper but not much. I never by any meat from there either, instead I go to a meat wholesaler. Your local Farmfoods and Aldi etc are much better for personal shopping or for people who cant claim back the VAT.
