This summer is going to be different for everyone!

If your usual plans have changed, you may be trying to think up some new things to do with your kids this summer (anyone else thought about just continuing with homeschooling?!)

The Bank of England is running a drawing competition for kids aged 5 to 11.

They simply need to create a new banknote to celebrate the city, town or village where they live.

The competition is free to enter, and entries are split into three ages categories: 5 to 7 years old, 8 to 9 years old and 10 to 11 years old.

It’s an excellent way to have a conversation with kids about money (financial education starts at home).

Each note celebrates places around the UK, with “Big Ben” in London, Margate lighthouse in Kent, Winchester Cathedral and a factory in Birmingham.

Your child will need to draw one side of a banknote (not on a note itself!) and it will need to include the name and features of the city, town or area where your child lives.

If your child is a fantastic artist and it looks very similar to the real thing, they will need to write “SPECIMEN” across it.

Once completed, you can either take a photo or scan the design, then submit to via an entry form on their Facebook page, or you can email it to museum.events@bankofengland.co.uk including your child’s first name, age and a telephone number.

The competition closes at midnight on Friday 14 August 2020 and winners will be notified by Friday 4 September.

What can you win?

The winners of the Bank of England drawing competition will win a selection of goodies from the museum shop.

The budding artists will also see their drawing published on the Bank of England website and Facebook page.

If and when you’re able, the Bank of England Museum is a FREE way to spend a couple of hours in London.

The museum is really interactive and is fun for both kids and adults. We were even given free pens and badges when we arrived!

One of my favourite things was (trying) to pick up a real gold bar worth around £250,000 – it was so heavy!

Although, that’s nothing!

The vault home over 400,000 bars worth £200 billion – making the bank the second largest keeper of gold in the world.

I would have taken more photos while there last summer, but we were enjoying all exhibitions too much!
