M&S increase £15 free school meal voucher to £20

by Naomi Willis · updated 22 January 2021

Each week during the lockdown, M&S is funding an additional £5 towards the £15 free school meal vouchers (£20 total), so kids can have breakfast and lunch.

M&S is giving parents an extra £5 a week for free when they use the free school meal voucher to buy lunches for their kids.

So, instead of spending £15, you will be able to get £20 worth of food when you shop at M&S.

Even better, with some careful planning, the increased voucher won’t just get you enough food for one child.

M&S has developed a free downloadable meal plan for £20, so you can feed two kids breakfast and lunch for £20.

If you have younger children who may not qualify for the FSM vouchers, this will mean you could use extra to feed more of your family.

From Monday we will bolster the Government’s weekly £15 School Meal Vouchers to £20. The extra £5 can provide children in England with nutritious meals each day at home. So you can get breakfast & lunch for 2 children for £20.

Their weekly meal planner means you don’t need to scratch your head working out what to do for the week. It also comes with a handy shopping list.

It’s also been created to help parents prepare 5 days of simple and nutritious breakfasts and lunches for less than £20.

The offer starts running from Monday, 18th January, the same time when the national voucher scheme launches again.

The announcement is supported by Marcus Rashford MBE, who says:

As a child, I relied on breakfast clubs to kick start my day the right way. Breakfast is so important to guarantee children have the ability to engage in learning, and to flourish within the education system, to go on to succeed at whatever they choose to do in life. Education is the most effective means of breaking cycles of hardship in some respects but education is only achievable with strong engagement and concentration. Unfortunately for the majority, hunger does not allow that. I thank M&S for taking the strong initiative to support the uplift of the vouchers to cover an essential meal of the day and I’m confident we will see a great response from those most vulnerable.

The downloadable kid’s meal plan was developed by M&S’ senior in-house nutritionist, Laura Street.

Each meal needs minimal food prep and includes family favourites such as porridge with fruit, eggs and soldiers, flour tortilla pizzas with salad and tomato pasta.

The menu has taken into account pack sizes, so you’re able to reduce food waste too.

The online planner also contains hints, tips and mealtime inspiration.

How to redeem the voucher

Parents should exchange their eCode issued via the free school meals scheme delivered by Edenred for an M&S eGift card at www.selectyourcompliment.co.uk/grocery.

The £15 e-voucher will automatically be loaded with an additional £5, making this a £20 M&S e-voucher to spend on food in the store.

When shopping in store, hand over your voucher at the checkout, and it will scan as £20.
