Rising costs on not on anyone’s side this winter, but research from Age UK has shown that people aged 65 to 74 are £163 per month worse off compared to this time last year.

To help with the rising costs, Asda has launched a new cheap meal deal in their cafes over November and December 2022.

For just £1, over 60s can get a soup, roll and unlimited teas and coffees.

The deal will run in all 205 Asda Cafes, all day, every day.

This deal runs alongside their Kids Eat for £1 offer than has been running since June, which has served more than half a million meals.

The offer runs daily, every day, and kids can pick from a cold pick and mix selection or their hot meals.

Community Cuppa

The supermarket also runs a ‘Community Cuppa’ campaign in its cafes.

It’s opening the doors to community groups who might be struggling to meet due to the rise in energy costs.

Groups can have spaced from Monday to Friday in November and December from 2 PM to 6 PM. Groups will also get unlimited free tea and coffee.

Mohsin Issa, Asda’s Co-owner, said: “We know that this winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and a fixed income. We’ve already been able to serve over half a million meals through our Kids Eat for £1 initiative in our cafes and we’re hoping our new offer of soup and hot drinks for over 60s will prove just as impactful for those who need it most. Meanwhile, the cost of living grant programme led by Asda’s charity The Asda Foundation will support grassroots organisations who are providing a lifeline in their communities during these tough times.”
