Why are Benjamin Bunny 50p coins worth more than others?

There’s usually the misconception that Benjamin Bunny is worth a lot, but that’s simply not true.

The 2017 Benjamin Bunny 50p coin is available widely in circulation and in unused forms (if you want to buy one brand new).

There are 25 million of the Beatrix Potter Benjamin Button coins minted in circulation. This actually makes the coin the most likely to be found, as some of the other 50ps in the collection have a far lower mintage of 1.4 million.

But, if you go searching, they appear to have different prices for the same product.

Sometimes, it will depend on the quality of the coins (so uncirculated versions, with no general damage, will go for more), but higher prices can be down to what the seller prices it at (that doesn’t mean they sell).

How much is Benjamin Bunny 50ps worth?

The coins in the Beatrix Potter 50p collection are often sold far above face value.

You may have seen in the press that Peter Rabbit coins were bought for hundreds of pounds on eBay, though the price can also be very low at around 50p – £1 for Benjamin Bunny (so its face value).

One of the most recent prices of the Benjamin Button “rare” silver coin was £25,000 (yes, thousands!) when we looked on eBay, and one had sold for 99p the following day.

Overall, a circulated Benjamin Bunny 50p is worth around £1, plus the buyer would need to pay for any postage and packaging.

If you have an uncirculated version, it may be worth closer to £3.

Remember, just because it’s a completed listing doesn’t mean the buyer paid that price!

They would likely have pulled out of the sale and not parted with the money, perhaps…

There are currently no uncirculated coins available to buy new from the Royal Mint.

If you wanted one for your collection, eBay would be the best place to buy one.

Benjamin Bunny 50p mintage

The 2017 Benjamin Bunny coins were one of the first 50 p coins released in 2017 to celebrate Beatrix Potter’s life.

Some 25,000,000 Benjamin Bunnys, designed by Emma Noble, were issued in 2017, making them the most popular 50p coins in the series.

The second 50p coin with the highest mintage was the 2016 Peter Rabbit coin at 19.9 million, but the mintage of the Potter coins dropped significantlyafter thatr.

Then comes the 2017 Jeremy Fisher 50p with 9.9 million coins, and the 2017 Tom Kitten has a 9.5 million mintage.

Many of them remain in change, but they change hands for a much higher value when people look to add more 50p coins to their collection.

Is it rare?

The 2017 Benjamin Bunny 50p is one more common 50p commemorative coin on the British market, with the design based on the original Brittania coin.

Benjamin Bunny 50p isn’t deemed rare, although it has an attractive design, and collectors would be eager to have the coin as part of an overall collection.

What is the error on the Benjamin Bunny 50p?

A rare 50p coin sold on eBay for £255 following an opportune seller suggesting an error involving the denomination.

The seller said the Benjamin Bunny coin had the Queens’ heads facing an opposite direction – known as a rotation error.

When the coin flips, the Queen’s head should be facing the opposite side of the coin.

Benjamin Bunny 50p error

There has been no official response from the Royal Mint to confirm no errors feature on the 50p coin with the rabbit.

Going forward, it is recommended that users avoid listings that say there is such an error coin until any official confirmation is given, however.
