Nectar points now on Deliveroo: how Sainsbury’s shoppers can earn more from their food shop

by Ricky Willis · updated 28 November 2025

If you grab your Sainsbury’s groceries through Deliveroo, there’s a new little money boost you can tap into.

Nectar points now on Deliveroo

Nectar has finally joined the Deliveroo app, which means you can now earn points on your food shop without stepping outside.

With food prices still pushing budgets, this change helps you get a bit more back for spending you were already doing.

How the new points system works

When you order from a participating Sainsbury’s store on Deliveroo, you’ll see a box at checkout where you can type in your Nectar card number.

Once added, you get one Nectar point for every £1 spent on eligible Sainsbury’s items in the app.

No special settings. No codes. Just link your number, and the points land on your account.

This matters because until now, people using delivery apps often missed out on loyalty rewards. Deliveroo says the update is a big win for customers, and it’s easy to see why.

Where it works across the UK

Sainsbury’s started Deliveroo coverage with around 300 stores a few years ago. It has since grown to roughly 1,000 locations, so most major towns and cities are now included.

Only Sainsbury’s products earn points. Anything from restaurants, takeaways or other retailers on Deliveroo won’t count.

Why Deliveroo is rolling out loyalty schemes

Loyalty cards are now part of everyday shopping. Around 97 per cent of UK shoppers belong to at least one supermarket scheme, and the average person is signed up to three.

Deliveroo knows people want value wherever they shop, so it’s bringing loyalty programmes straight into the app.

It’s not only Nectar. Deliveroo already supports:

  • Morrisons More Card points
  • Co-op Member Prices
  • Wagamama’s loyalty programme
  • Boots Advantage Card points
  • Tesco Clubcard on Whoosh

Supermarket loyalty features are quickly becoming the norm on delivery apps.

Does it actually help your budget?

If you already use Deliveroo for quick top-ups or weekly bits, it’s definitely a win. You’re now earning points you previously missed out on.

A simple example:
A £20 top-up shop each week would earn around 1,040 points a year. That’s just over £5 in value for doing nothing extra. Small, but steady.

Skint Dad says:

If you’re already spending money, make sure every penny works its hardest. Earning Nectar points through Deliveroo helps turn everyday shopping into real savings.

A quick refresher on Nectar value

Nectar points are usually worth 0.5p each.

  • 100 points = 50p
  • 500 points = £2.50
  • 1,000 points = £5

You can use them in Sainsbury’s, at partner retailers like eBay, or during special points events.

Will you get Nectar Prices or personalised offers?

Not on Deliveroo. Those perks only apply in store or when shopping directly with Sainsbury’s online. But earning points through the app still helps claw back some value.

Final thoughts

This update won’t change your whole budget, but it stops you losing out. With nearly every supermarket leaning heavily on loyalty schemes, it makes sense for delivery apps to keep up.

If delivery shopping fits your routine, you might as well collect the points you’re entitled to.
