You can enter each day for free, and the prizes are usually decent.
Below is everything you need to know, along with a few simple tips to help you make the most of it.
How the competition works
The setup is simple. Starting on 1 December, Sainsbury’s Magazine opens a new door on its online advent calendar each morning.
Behind each door is a new prize, and you can enter that day’s draw with a quick form on their website.
Each door is only open for one day, so if you miss it, you miss the prize. You can enter all 12 days, so you’ll have twelve chances to win.

What prizes you can expect
The full list hasn’t been revealed yet, but looking at past years gives a good idea of the type of prizes they tend to include.
Previous competitions have featured things like:
- Kitchen gadgets
- Luxury food and drink hampers
- Cookware sets
- Beauty bundles
- Festive home bits
- Gift cards
- Christmas treats from well-known brands
Nothing too small, and usually things that fit well with the run-up to Christmas. This year’s setup looks to be the same again.
How to enter each day
All entries happen on the Sainsbury’s Magazine website.
- Go to the Advent calendar page each day from 1–12 December.
- Fill in the short form for the prize that day.
- Submit, and you’re done.
You don’t pay anything, and you don’t need to sign up for a subscription to enter.
Tips to give yourself the best chance
You can’t control which prize is behind each door, but there are a few simple ways to help yourself.
Don’t leave it late
Some doors close at midnight, so enter earlier in the day to avoid forgetting.
Set a reminder
It’s only 12 days, but it’s easy to lose track in December. A phone reminder or calendar alert makes it simple.
Enter every day
It sounds obvious, but lots of people only enter once or twice. If you enter all 12 days, you give yourself the best shot.
Check your emails
Winners are contacted by email. These sometimes end up in junk folders, so a quick check now and then helps.
Is it worth entering?
Yes. It’s free, takes a minute, and the prizes are usually much nicer than the usual “win a keyring” competitions.
If you’re already juggling the cost of Christmas, a win could sort a present, a food shop, or something useful for the house.
Final thoughts
This is one of those simple December freebies that costs nothing and gives you a spark of excitement each morning.
Whether you fancy a chance at a hamper, a kitchen gadget or something festive for the house, it’s well worth entering daily.
