Eat Out to Help Out Restaurant List – Where to Get 50% Off

by Naomi Willis · updated 1 August 2020

The government has launched a new Eat Out to Help Out scheme which gives you a 50% discount when you eat at a restaurant in August.

I’m sure Rishi said something like this one of the first schemes of its kind…erm, he obviously doesn’t know about the meerkats!!

He may not realise he reinvented Meerkat Meals and tastecard, (and it may not be the £500 voucher some on social media were suggesting we’d get), but it could still be helpful?

For the some 3 million people who have been excluded from any government support, they probably don’t even have the money spare to go out. And this scheme will feel like another kick in the teeth!

If this is not a scheme to you can afford, and you’re really struggling, please take a look at this guide on how to eat when you’ve got no money. Also, you may not believe me now, but things will get better x

But, if you’ve been doing alright for the past few months and haven’t been able to get a better deal elsewhere (again, get Meerkat 2 for 1 Meals – it’s £1 for a year), this scheme is there to help boost the economy and entice people to use the hospitality trade.

How does Eat out to Help Out Work?

eat out to help out restaurants

The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme starts on 3 August 2020.

You won’t be able to get the discount everywhere, but only with establishments who sign up to the scheme.

You will get 50% off your food bill when you eat in – this is not for alcoholic drinks for service charges.

The maximum discount you’ll get is £10 per person, and there is no limit on how many people can use the discount at once.

You’re able to get money off each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 3 and 31 August.

One big deal is that you can use the discount at the same times as other offers and discounts – with no minimum spend and you don’t need to give a voucher.

So, why not use a tastecard offer or Meerkat Meals, then get even more off with the Eat Out to Help Out discount! Or, use a kids eat free deal to get it even cheaper!

Again, the whole idea of this is to help restaurants, cafés, bars and pubs (that serve food), work and school canteens and food halls who have struggled over the first half of 2020.

Monday – Wednesday are usually quieter days, so they hope it will mean more business.

Any discount you get on your bill is reclaimed by them from the government, so they won’t be losing out, and will hopefully keep themselves afloat by having new customers in the door.

Which restaurants are taking part?

My wife and I have been taking advantage of the eat out to help out scheme for a couple of reasons: 1) to help local businesses, and 2) because we were going crazy being stuck in the house for so long lol.

I didn’t know about Meerkat Meals, so I will give it a shot – especially with the eat out to help out scheme ending soon. Nice tip!
