Aldi has launched a new online grocery shopping service to help vulnerable customers get budget food delivered to their door.

For anyone self-isolating, getting shopping has been hard.
Trying to get a delivery slot with a supermarket has been difficult, and I know many people have been using alternative places to get food that’s not a supermarket.
But, while it’s meant many have been able to get food online, it’s not been easy on the budget.
Aldi online food shop
Aldi is starting to sell ambient food parcels online for the first time from Friday, 17 April 2020.
The parcels will be delivered and contain 22 products, including tinned soup, rice and pasta.
As well as food, each parcel contains antibacterial handwash and a four-pack of toilet roll.
Each parcel costs £24.99, which includes the delivery cost.

You’re currently able to shop online at Aldi, but only for the stuff you’d usually see in the middle of the aisle, or wine.

This is the first time Aldi will offer an online delivery service for food.
Their full grocery range will not available to purchase online. You will only be able to buy food boxes online at this time.
What’s in an Aldi food parcel?
The food parcel contains store cupboard ingredients, rather than fresh food.
You will still be able to create meals from the contents of the food parcel.

Support from Aldi
As well as the online food parcels, they are also running other initiatives to support the elderly and vulnerable.
Aldi has donated £250,000 to Age UK in March.
They also introduced reserved opening times 30 minutes before regular opening times (Monday to Saturday) for vulnerable shoppers.
Fritz Walleczek, Managing Director for Corporate Responsibility at Aldi said: “We are committed to providing quick, safe and affordable access to food for all our customers and understand that, for some, visiting one of our stores is not an option at the moment.
“We’re constantly looking for new and better ways to support our customers in these uncertain times and I’m hopeful that these food parcels will make life a little easier for some of the country’s most at-risk people.”

Morrisons Meat Box
Aldi is not the first supermarket to offer food parcels.
Morrisons food parcels sell for £35 including delivery costs.
You can pick from meat or vegetarian boxes, as well as packs with ready meals and each box will feed two adults for one week.
M&S also offers food boxes for £35 and vegetarian boxes for £30 (and they contain Percy Pigs sweets). Delivery costs an additional £3.99.
M&S is now selling mixed veg boxes for £15 too.
