If you’ve got any Nectar points saved up don’t touch them or spend them! Sainsbury’s has shared when the next Double Up event is taking place for 2018.
Instead of spending your Nectar points willy-nilly you need to save them up (if you can afford to).
Sainsbury’s runs Double Up events to help you cash in on the reward points you’ve been collecting over the year.
Rather than just being worth their standard value, all points will be (can you guess?) doubled!
You can spend the bonus points on loads of non-food items at Sainsbury’s.
What is Nectar Double Up?
Sainsbury’s run Double Up once or twice a year to help us all maximise the value of our Nectar points.
On any normal day, 1,000 Nectar points can be exchanged for £5 in store.
However, during a Double Up event, your points are multiplied by two and are worth a whole lot more. Therefore each 1,000 points is now worth £10, 2,000 points are £20 and 5,000 points becomes £50.
|Nectar points||Normal value||Double Up value|
To take advantage of the offer you need to exchange the Nectar points you’ve got saved for a Nectar Double Up voucher.
You also need to have a masters degree in loyalty card points and astrophysics because some of their terms and conditions get a bit confusing!!
When does Double Up start?
Double Up vouchers can be ordered online from Nectar between 29 October and 4 November 2018.
You only have between those dates to swap your points for double their value when you do it online.
If you’ve ordered them online, they will be sent out in the post to you between 29 October and 4 November.
Or you can get the Double Up vouchers in store.
Just go to the customer service desk or designated till, (they will be signposted in store), between 5 November 2018 and 18 November 2018. Nectar Double Up vouchers will not be available at other checkouts.
You need to make sure you have your Nectar card with you to do this in store.
When can you spend them?
Once you’ve got a Double Up voucher you can redeem it/spend it (in store only) between 12 and 18 November 2018.
You’ve only got one week to use them…
…if you don’t use them you lose them!!
How many Double Up vouchers can I get?
You need to have a minimum of 1,000 Nectar points to take part in the event.
It’s all changed a bit from last year as you could choose to redeem up to 4,000 points – and that was the max.
This year, they have dropped being able to exchange 3,000 points (worth £30 in Double Up) but increased the maximum points you can swap to 5,000, which gives you a £50 voucher.
Plus, you’re able to redeem a total maximum of 20,000 Nectar points (if you’ve collected that many!) across any of the shopping categories (see more of that below).
Last year, it used to be a maximum across every category so it’s being limited for 2018.
So, you could get £200 worth of money to spend in store only having used £100 worth of points.
Nectar points can be exchanged for Nectar Double Up vouchers at 1,000 points, 2,000 points or 5,000 points.
- 1,000 points will get you a £10 Nectar Double Up voucher (usually equivalent to 2,000 points in Sainsbury’s);
- 2,000 points will get you a £20 Nectar Double Up voucher (usually equivalent to 4,000 points in Sainsbury’s); or
- 5,000 points will get you a £50 Nectar Double Up voucher (usually equivalent to 10,000 points in Sainsbury’s).
Only £200 worth of Nectar Double Up vouchers will be issued per Nectar card during the promotional period.
When you get your Double Up vouchers and are ready to spend them you need to remember to take your Nectar card.
So, please do think carefully before swapping your Nectar points over – don’t swap on impulse!
And remember, you cannot use them for food (see the categories you can use them in below)
What can you get with your Double Up vouchers?
There is a bit long list of what you can cash in on. Perhaps you can get a cheap gift for Christmas or why not treat yourself!
- Tu Clothing
- Taste the Difference: Wine, Champagne, Sparkling, Sherry & Port
You cannot use your Doube Up voucher to buy anything that wouldn’t fit into that category. So, if you wanted to use the points to get a load of food shopping you won’t be able to.
Also, you’re not able to use your Double Up vouchers online, at a Sainsbury’s Local, in Concessions or in Petrol Stations.
As a head’s up, you cannot earn Nectar points when you’ve made a “double up” purchase.
When it comes to using your voucher you must have your Nectar card with you as well.
What I want to buy is more than my voucher!
Say you want to buy a £30 microwave but have a £20 Double Up voucher.
You can use the Double Up voucher and pay the rest using any other leftover Nectar points or pay by cash/card for the remaining £10.
What I want it less than my voucher!
You’re not allowed to spend less – other than the few odd pennies.
That’s why it’s important to be sure you know what you intend to buy.
The full value of the Nectar Double Up voucher has to be spent in one go.
If what you’re planning to buy something that costs less than your voucher there are a few different rules:
- 5p+ difference
If the difference in the voucher and what you want is more than 5p you must buy other things in the same category so the full value of the voucher is used. For example, if you have a £10 voucher, you need to spend on an item worth £9.95 or more (from your chosen category).
- 1p-5p difference
If the difference in the voucher is less than 5p whatever’s left will be deducted from whatever else you’re buying or given back as cash.
Are you still with me?!
Good, cause it took us ages to decipher the Sainsbury’s rules!
What happens if I haven’t spent my Double Up vouchers?
It’s not good news I’m afraid.
You must spend your Double Up vouchers between 12 and 18 November or you’ll lose out!
After this 18th November cut off any Nectar Double Up vouchers will expire and they’ll have no value.
Nectar Double Up vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash or swapped back for Nectar points (even before the end of the event!).
They’ll be worthless so please make sure you’ll actually be able to spend them.
Trying to save up Nectar points can be a hard slot. Luckily, there are LOADS of ways to collect Nectar points without going anywhere near Sainsbury’s 🙂
