Get free food from Sainsbury’s every time you shop

by Naomi Willis · updated 29 June 2021

Getting the cost of your supermarket shop down can be a big problem and it doesn’t always go to plan.

Sure, you follow all the usual tips like:

  • Meal planning
  • Cooking from scratch
  • Using leftovers
  • Not falling for supermarket tricks

But, just as you think you’ve got it mastered – WHOOSH – there’s a random price change on your favourite items and – BOOM – your food shop has jumped up £20 a week without you doing anything different.

Keeping your supermarket bill at an affordable level requires a fair bit of keeping your eyes open, and being prepared to switch things up at the last minute.

Sainsburys freebies

Sainsbury's store

Instead of paying for food, isn’t it much better if you can just get it for free?

Yep! Sure is 😊

Well, you can when you shop online with Sainsbury’s.

It’s not one or two bits you can pick up, but there are generally loads of free food, as well as competitions you can enter too.

Sainsbury’s free stuff

To get your freebies, you just need to follow a few easy steps:

  • add the food listed in the freebies section to your online basket
  • add the ecoupons when at the basket
  • the cost will be knocked off your total bill

You can find the Sainsbury’s ecoupon code here, as well as all the offers for food you can try for free.

Easy, peasy.

There are different things available all the time.

Remember to check before you finish your shop and add the Sainsbury’s freebies and vouchers to your basket.

What free stuff can you get?

Example of Sainsbury’s freebies

There are different offers popping up all the time with Sainsbury’s.

I’ve seen free tea, noodles, cat food, milk, pasta, cleaning items and cheese (yes, FREE CHEESE!!)

So, it’s not just fast food or snacks high in sugar, but stuff that you will likely use as normal throughout the week.

Their freebies are usually limited in number.

There will be a description letting you know how many free codes are available, but it’s usually for the first 5,000 or 10,000 people.

While you’ll want to snap up the freebies quickly in your delivery, there should be plenty to go around.

Why do they give away freebies?

Sainsbury’s give away things for free to get you to like them.

There’s not really much more to it.

They hope that by you trying the food for free that you’ll love it.

It’s very similar to when companies give away free samples of perfume or cashback apps give you cash off or free food.

They want you to be aware of their products, maybe talk about them with your friends, and hopefully buy them again in the future.

Save even more off your shop

Supermarket

The deal, freebie and vouchers are not available in-store.

You will only be able to get the freebie with online delivery.

If you’ve not shopped online before, you may well be able to access a new shopper discount code to bring costs down more.

Alternatively, when you sign up for the Skint List email newsletter, new subscribers will get access to an exclusive deal we’ve set up with Quidco.

You’ll receive £16 free after cashback when you shop with ANY retailer through the cashback site.

You just need to spend a minimum of £15, but you’ll get £16 back – another real easy win.

Save when you shop online with Sainsbury’s

When it comes to doing an online shop with Sainsbury’s you don’t always need to pay to get your food delivered.

Home delivery for customers starts from £1 for a delivery slot.

Alternatively, there’s free click and collect if you spend over £40 on your order. This will allow you to still have the freebies.

Sainsbury’s sometimes has new customer discounts when you shop through their site, although there haven’t been as many recently.

Other ways to get free food

Eating is an expensive habit, but it's a habit we can't avoid. Instead of spending all your hard earned money at the supermarket, why not try to score yourself some free food and cut down on your grocery bill.

Shopping online at Sainsbury’s isn’t the only want to get a freebie and lower your food shop.

There are actually quite a few different ways to get free food, so be sure to keep them in mind before you go shopping.
